A Lynyrd Synyrd fan was arrested for identity theft earlier this week when she was attending a concert of her favourite band where she had fraudulently used a credit card for buying the tickets for the event.

The suspect, one April S. Heser aged 36, was arrested at the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert that took place at the Delaware State Fair in the town of Harrington, according to the local newspaper the Dover Post. The state police had flagged the tickets she had bought as part of the investigation of Heser’s activities.

According to the reports, Heser had used someone else’s private information to open up a credit card account around mid-June and than had the credit card sent to her house afterward. Her expenses and credit card debt using that credit card reached around $2, 328 in which she had made purchases at clothing stores, restaurants, Wal-mart, and finally the tickets for the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert.

Authorities had managed to narrow down their search ant identify Heser as a suspect by coordinating with the fraud investigation department of the credit card issuer that Heser had fraudulently used and the loss prevention manager of the Wal-Mart branch where she had made purchases in. After Heser was arrested, she was charged with the crime of identity theft, the unlawful use of a credit card, and for the theft of over $1, 500.

According to the local newspaper of Georgetown, the Sussex Countian, this incident was the second time the Delaware State Police had managed to arrest identity thieves in a week. The first arrest was made earlier this week when another woman had also fraudulently used someone else’s credit card.

The first incident had occurred when a 71-year old man had forgotten to retrieve is credit card after making a withdrawal at the ATM found at the Rehoboth Beach. The suspect, a 21-year old woman who was standing in line behind the victim when he made the transaction, stole the credit card which was let in the machine and made more withdrawals from the old man’s account. Authorities managed to identify her using surveillance footage. The suspect then tried to leave the country but returned later when she was arrested by the police and charged with 14 counts of identity theft of citizen older than 62, 15 counts of theft, and 14 counts of unauthorized use of a credit card. Her illegal purchases amounted to over $1, 316.

The two incidents of identity thefts occurring within a week in the city of Delaware shows that this type of crime is still commonplace, and that credit card users and consumer should continue safeguarding their financial information. They are also advised to make regular credit report monitoring to make sure that they are not victims of identity theft.
